THE ISLAND they saw after this was named Encos (or ‘One Foot’), because it was suspended on a single massive pillar in the middle. They rowed all round it, looking for some entrance; but they could find no landing-place.
However, deep down below the surface of the water, they saw a door that appeared to be securely closed and locked, and they judged that this must be the way into the pillar.
They could see a crowd of people on the island above them, and they called aloud, trying to attract their attention, but there was no reply.
So they left without conversing with anyone, and put out to sea once more.
